Canned Canadian Mushrooms 

Canadian shoppers have shown an interest in ‘locally grown’ foods by asking “where can

I buy Canadian canned mushrooms?” The answer is that Canadian mushrooms are available

in cans under the following labels: 

    • EQUITY

    • MERIT SELECTION

    • PRESIDENTS CHOICE MUSHROOM MEDLEY

    • PRESIDENTS CHOICE ORGANIC MUSHROOMS

    • RAVINE MUSHROOMS

    • RAVINE MUSHROOM MEDLEY

    • RAVINE ROYALE MUSHROOMS

    • RAVINE WHITE ORGANIC MUSHROOMS

Note: In each case, these cans are labeled ‘MUSHROOM PIECES AND STEMS’ and ‘PRODUCT
OF CANADA’. They are sold in many of the major food chains across the country.

Canned Mushrooms from Foreign Countries

In 2006, Canada imported 25 million lb. (11 m kg.) of canned mushrooms, 80% of those

came from China. In some instances, mushrooms are imported in bulk and canned in

Canada. Under specific conditions, the imported mushrooms may be labeled ‘PRODUCT
OF CANADA’.**

For safety, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has practices in place to monitor the

safety of all imported foods, including canned mushrooms. As for quality, all mushrooms
that comply with Canadian standards can be labeled as Canada Grades A, B or C, regardless
of country-of-origin.*** 

Fresh Mushrooms

Over 90% of the fresh mushrooms sold in Canada are grown on Canadian farms and labeled
‘PRODUCT OF CANADA’.
